Political & Legislative Program
Overview
City and county decisions shape our jobs: funding, safety, transit, and fair rules. We will do politics in the open, with a compliant member-run PAC (our political fund), clear goals, and regular reporting. We’ll map where members live, focus on practical local issues, and time our pushes to support bargaining and organizing.
Endorsements will follow a simple process: questions, forums, member input, and posted results. No back rooms, no mystery spending. The measure is whether the work helps members on the job and in their communities, and whether everyone can see what we’re doing and why.
What we’ll do
- Stand up a compliant PAC (Treasurer + Counsel; day 1–45): policies, training, and monthly reports to members.
- Map districts & issues (PAC + Organizing; day 30–60): focus on winnable local changes that strengthen contracts.
- Open endorsement process (PAC + Members; as needed): questionnaires, forums, posted votes, and conflict-of-interest disclosures.
- Calendar that supports bargaining (PAC + Bargaining; ongoing): time public actions to reinforce contract goals.
- Member participation (PAC + Comms; ongoing): simple sign-ups for testimony, canvassing, and turnout.
Why it matters
A good contract is easier to win and keep when the rules and budgets around us make sense. Targeted local work can unlock resources, protect safety, and stop hostile policies before they land. Doing this in the open keeps trust high: members know what we’re backing, how much we spend, and the result we expect. Politics is a tool, not a side project; used well, it shortens fights at the table and improves daily life at work and at home.
